This week, the mitochondrial and rare disease community suffered a significant blow with the airing of a NBC Chicago Med episode that referred to mitochondrial disease, a scientifically recognized diagnosis effecting thousands of individuals leading to severe morbidity and mortality for affected patients, a waste basket disease.
